Civic Reserve Sports Pavilion

With the redevelopment of the Civic Reserve sporting fields and athletics track, the Mount Martha Soccer Club, Mornington Little Athletics and Mornington Peninsula Athletics Club were struggling to cater for growing numbers in the old pavilion, with over 900 members between them.

Located between the athletics track and soccer field, FIMMA stepped in to take over the partially completed pavilion following the collapse of the of the project’s main contractor. The pavilion includes four new female-friendly change rooms, umpires’ change rooms, a kitchen, a multi-use social space, a first aid room, meeting space and storage areas. Landscaping design includes a perimeter walkway, outdoor gym and fixing water retention issues. 

Prioritising energy efficiency, with a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by almost 90% over the lifetime of the building, features include:

• Large 50kW solar PV system 
• Passive design elements including insulation, glazing and shading to improve energy efficiency 
• Efficient hot water, heating and cooling equipment 
• Rainwater tank to capture and reuse water 
• Water sensitive urban design (WSUD) to help detain and treat storm water, reducing pollutants and ease flood risks downstream
• Low carbon concrete used in civil and structural design. 

Funded by the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council and Community Sport Infrastructure Stimulus Program, the Civic Reserve Sports Pavilion provides the perfect home for clubs to train and compete well into the future.
