Holmwood Aged Care Facility

Client:
Triune Properties Holmwood
Architect:
Smith + Tracey Architects

Located about an hour east from Melbourne’s CBD in peaceful Healesville, Holmwood Aged Care facility has a long history of providing quality care and accommodation for the local Seniors community. Originally established as a guest house in 1920, the current owners purchased the property and adjacent vacant land with a plan to modernise and increase services by updating and extending the facility.

Following a competitive tender process, FIMMA was contracted to construct a new double storey modern extension, with contemporary features and high-quality finishes throughout for residents and staff alike, comprising 46 new aged-care beds across 38 rooms, with a mix of single and double rooms, all with private ensuites, built-in robes and 24/7 nurse call system. Other features built into the extension included consulting rooms, hairdressing salon, dining and community lounge room, and several other activity zones. A large lift, extensive deck areas and fully landscaped surroundings provide access and engaging pathways throughout the site.

Positioned on a steep incline with silty soils, the scope of works included delivery of major retaining wall structures of reinforced concrete and keystone blockwork to create suitable building platforms, which created significant complications for construction during the winter period. Through precise planning, extensive risk management processes and collaboration with our skilled subcontractor team, our project team ensured continuous progress and a successful outcome for our client.
