Elsternwick Park Pavilion No.2

Client:
Bayside City Council
Architect:
Centrum Architects

FIMMA completed this project while ensuring full use of the adjacent sporting grounds and facilities during construction. The new pavilion took a little over ten months to reach practical completion. The design references the native German meaning of Elsternwick, roughly translating to Magpie Village. The unique façade was inspired by the form of a magpie’s nest structure, while the colours and diagonal elements pay homage to the Elsternwick football club’s own jersey.

The new building provides a modern and adaptable facility, featuring change rooms, first aid and umpire rooms, separate entry public amenities, kitchen, large social room and several equipment storage rooms. The precinct is now known as the Holmes-Todd Oval and Pavilion in recognition of two significant club representatives from both current tenants, the Elsternwick Cricket Club and the Elsternwick Amateur Football Club who have been at this location for over 110 years.

Funding for the facility upgrade and adjacent oval works was provided by Bayside City Council as part of their overall $52 million investment and masterplan vision to improve all 27 sporting pavilions within the municipality by 2025.
